Onus on businesses to provide COVID-19 contact tracing information

“Businesses should start thinking about how they can have physical distancing, whether they need personal protective equipment, and how they can contact trace customers”. - Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand Prime Minister.

On 09 April Jacinda Ardern urged businesses to ‘get ready’ now for the next alert level (whenever that might be). She also talked about an app using Bluetooth technology which might assist in contact tracing. The major limitation of the app is it needs to be consented and installed on cellphones by users.

At the same time, Jacinda made it clear that businesses will be required to collect a register of visitors/customers and staff visiting premises. Irrespective of when an app might appear, the challenge still remains that businesses will need to have some register in place for those who do not have the app installed.

Businesses can either adopt their own version of contact registration (typically paper based and difficult to manage) or adopt the process stood up by the team at processCentral. This will require that business owners point visitors/customers or staff to an online form for them to complete on premise on their device and that’s it! The form data will be held centrally and securely online. Contact information requested by the Ministry of Health to the business will be provided ‘on demand’.
